A really enjoyable and challenging program for absolute beginners, intermediate level or stage actors who wish to make the transition to the screen. Essential Techniques is a program for those interested in recognizing and acquiring the particular skills required not only to work on camera but also create truthful ‘in-the-moment’ characters.

Adult Scene / Auditioning Study for Film & Television

This eight week course will take the actor into a variety of scene studies for both television and film, as well as developing the basics of auditioning techniques. The course will focus on character development, script analysis, relationship and emotional truth. Students will work with acting partners in scenes from both classic film roles and contemporary television series to create powerful, honest scenes using a variety of techniques. Short auditioning scenes will be used to establish confidence for the students in auditioning opportunities. They will learn how to perform these in an auditioning environment. Auditioning do’s and don’ts, and how to work truthfully while in the ‘audition pressure cooker’.
Joanne Wilson Bio:
Credits include roles in The CTV/ABC series Motive, The US-British drama series The Intruders, CTV/CW series Arrow, and the Lifetime Movie She Made Them Do It. Feature film credits: Tron Legacy, Kill For Me, and Cascadia. She has appeared on CBS, NBC, Bravo, Lifetime, Global, and Showtime The Mermaid Chair, Stranger with My Face, Trophy Wife, Whispers and Lies, Cross Roads, Augusta Gone, and The L Word.
In theatre, Joanne received outstanding reviews as Amanda Wingfield in Tennessee William’s classic The Glass Menagerie for Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre. Joanne has also appeared on stage at The Citadel Theater, Chinook Theatre, Workshop West, and the Chemainus Theatre Festival. Joanne has worked as a writer, announcer, interviewer and producer in the broadcast industry for Toronto’s Q107 and CFRB. Currently she hosts two national radio features heard on over 100 Canadian radio stations. She is also a successful voice over actor heard on documentaries, in animation, and on hundreds of commercials throughout North America.

A four day fun-filled camp working on scenes and commercials and finding out what it means to be on-set. Video-taping and playback are used throughout the camp to monitor the progress and provide the understanding of how to work on camera for the young actors. On the Thursday day we do a final shoot and enjoy a pizza lunch provided by the studio before presenting playback to the parents and guests on the closing afternoon. Please bring a bag lunch Monday through Wednesday. Camps are supervised at all times

Taught by working actors and filmmakers, The Young Actors Conservatory offers a series of courses from the entry absolute beginner level through the intermediate stages and continuing studies skills for the advanced working actor. Students can learn from basic to advanced on-camera acting and auditioning techniques designed to develop the skills needed to approach a career in film and television or just simply enjoy discovering what it would mean to be a working actor. It develops confidence and communication skills in the young person and allows them to explore their potential in a safe and encouraging environment. Welcome to the Cindy Akers (“Mother Up”, “Sabrina, Secrets of a Teenage Witch”) & Jan Rabson (“Minions”, “Despicable Me II”, “Toy Story III”, Burger King, Pepsi). In this voice-over workshop. Cindy and Jan cover everything from animation and commercials to announcing, books on tape, video games and looping. There is plenty of time at the microphone, as well as individual coaching. Questions answered include:
(1) How to get jobs and secure an agent (2) Voice-over income, and (3) How and when to make a demo.

His series work includes roles dating back to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pinky and the Brain to Slim Pig; Bratz; Edgar & Ellen and Geronimo Stilton. Commercial TV & radio spots include Ford; McDonalds; Pepsi; and hundreds of national brands. Jan has been teaching commercial and animation voice-over, as well as comedy improvisation, since 1985, across the US and Canada.

Tiffany Mak is a casting director based in Vancouver. She started her own casting company in 2009 and has cast numerous feature films, webseries, MOWs and short films that have screened at Cannes, TIFF, Tribeca and Comic-Con. Recent projects include features for Legendary Pictures, WWE Studios, Lionsgate, Fox, Warner Brothers, ABC Family, Lifetime and SyFy, starring actors such as Martin Sheen, Kal Penn, Anna Kendrick, Jesse Metcalfe, Sarah Hyland and Nick Offerman, as well as a host of well-known Canadian talent and local performers. In the past few months, she has done extensive searches in Vancouver to cast young actors in films opposite Peter Dinklage, Julia Ormond, Jennifer Beals and Heather Locklear.
Tiffany’s many credits include “The Girl In The Photographs” with Wes Craven exec producing, “Dead Rising: Watchtower” and “Electra Woman & Dyna Girl” for Legendary and “6:42” for WWE Studios and Lionsgate. Recently, Tiffany has cast “Before I Fall” for Awesomeness Films/20th Century Fox, and “Dead Rising 2” for Legendary.

One day only. 10 – 5 p.m.Kris Woznesensky and Kara Eide are a casting team for Film, TV and Global Advertising in Vancouver, Canada. Feature films include: Afflicted, Grace and Air for Sony Pictures. Most recently K&K completed casting for the TV series Rio Heat (a new project by Emmy Award-winning Producer Jon Cassar). Among numerous commercials (regional to international) are campaigns for Lexus, Reebok and Tylenol.
